In the case of Shivangi Mishra v. National Testing Agency and Others, the Supreme Court declined on Tuesday to halt the counselling process for medical college admissions despite allegations of a paper leak and other irregularities in the 2024 National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) test.
Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, presiding over a Vacation Bench, have issued a notice in response to a plea that seeks to annul the test conducted in May and initiate a probe into the leak of the exam paper.
The Court scheduled the issue for review on July 8 and requested a response from the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The Court said, “We will not stop the counselling. If you argue further, we will dismiss this,”.
The Court was hearing a batch of petitions seeking cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 over alleged paper leak and other irregularities this year.
There are comparable petitions pending in other high courts, including the high courts in Delhi and Calcutta.
One of the petitions presented to the Supreme Court explicitly mentions the accusations of paper leakage in Patna and the distribution of incorrect question papers to candidates in Rajasthan.
According to media sources, a significant number of applicants achieved a flawless score based on the results released on June 04, 2024.
The applicants have accused the presence of anomalies in the allocation of compensating marks to students due to time loss.
A bench of three judges consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra had already decided not to postpone the release of the NEET-UG 2024 results on May 17.
Nevertheless, it had issued a notice in response to the request.
